RE:TV Releases Nature Positive Buildings Film Exploring the Transition to a Carbon Positive Built Environment

This latest documentary film from RE:TV features experts on the built environment, including David Cheshire, who examine how buildings incorporating regenerative design contribute to healthy ecosystems

London, 26th September 2024 – RE:TV, a cross-platform channel showcasing innovative climate solutions from around the world, is today releasing its latest documentary film, Nature Positive Buildings. The buildings and construction sector is responsible for a staggering 37% of global emissions – far more than any single sector including transport. This figure includes both the “embodied carbon” of the construction process as well as the environmental cost of heating and cooling our cities.

While the scale of the climate crisis is daunting, it also presents a clear opportunity to make significant reductions in Greenhouse Gas emissions by focusing on a single sector. Much of the knowledge and technology is already available to decarbonise the built environment; the challenge is to develop policies and financial instruments to accelerate the deployment of this transition.

RE:TV’s Nature Positive Buildings documentary explores how a shift in mindset would enable us to change the buildings we live, work and play in so they become an integral part of the sustainable future; storing carbon, generating energy and promoting biodiversity in the heart of our cities.

The film features three main contributors who work for members of the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s Sustainable Buildings Task Force in the built environment:
David Cheshire, Sustainability Director at AECOM, and author of the recently published book, Regenerative By Design
Katie McGinty, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer at Johnson Controls
Jose La Loggia, Group President EMEA, Trane Technologies

Dan Watt-Smith, Channel Editor of RE:TV says, “Buildings are an essential part of the human experience, but they have been instrumental in bringing about the climate and biodiversity crisis. Nature Positive Buildings examines how technology that’s available today can significantly reduce emissions in existing buildings, and looks ahead to how regenerative design will create buildings which produce energy, capture water and store carbon.”

The film will be published on RE:TV’s cross platform channel as part of its Nature Positive Buildings Hub – a collection of content related to sustainable construction, including standalone interviews with each of the contributors, filmed case studies previously produced by RE:TV, and written reports by members of the Sustainable Construction Task Force.

In the month leading up to the film’s release, RE:TV has published social cut-downs, quote cards, stat cards and carousels to raise awareness of regenerative design and other solutions to help reduce emissions from the built environment. A trailer will be published and promoted on social channels to accompany the film’s launch.
